“The first rule of Hypocrites Club is…….”

“The first rule of hypocrites club is: You do not talk about hypocrites club. Unless you’re me”.

I quite like Dominic Cummings but mainly for the way Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed him in the Brexit Drama on the BBC. I like the image of a scruffy git with a lightening fast political brain riding roughshod over weary Tory MP’s. But as is so often the case, the guy who makes 10 enemies for every 1 friend is gonna get caught and breaking all the rules he advised the government to implement to look after him and his family gets him Grand Master status in the Hypocrites Club. But he’ll survive, Piers is away for a week so the heat will be taken out of it by the time he gets back on Good Morning Britain.

More worrying are the circling vultures. This whole thing now is about what happens when you mix politics and science – you get politics. The advice is driven by scientific reasoning but implemented, monitored and reported on by politicians who are, by there very nature, regular attendees at the club if not fully paid up members.

“We can’t afford to be burning through political capital like this” said Steve Baker who is clearly after blood and wants Cummings sacked. I read this as follows:

  1. “We are inherently underpinned by something called Political Capital (normal humans call this TRUST)”.
  2. “We will cock up quite a lot through this and many more crises and when we get caught for rank hypocrisy we need to eject the moron who broke the rules quickly so the public forget them and we can crack on telling them more things to not do which we, of course, will continue doing”.
  3. “For gods sake when we do break our own guidelines we need to do it discretely as we only have so much capital in the bank and a lot of morons to manage”.

Brad Pitt would never have put up with this if he was in charge.
